and have incredible views of the Continental Divide.
Enjoy a beautiful Colorado mountain vista around every turn driving just minutes
from the front range. Watch the sun set over the divide as lights come alive in
Idaho Springs and Central City. Then, take in the lights spanning the entire front
range as you head back down the mountain.
We recommend taking Hwy. 74 south to Hwy. 103, aka Squaw Pass Road, west towards
Mt. Evans for 12 miles. Another option is to take I-70 to Idaho Springs and head
south on Hwy. 103 past Echo Lake and the Mt. Evans byway. A third option if you’re
coming from downtown Idaho Springs is to take Little Bear Creek south to Hwy. 103
before going west for 2.5 miles.
With all winter driving in Colorado, ensure you’re in compliance with CDOT’s recommended travel safety suggestions including
having winter/snow tires, all wheel/4-wheel drive, and/or tire chains.
Jefferson County, Clear Creek County and CDOT do a great job of maintaining the
roads to Echo, but Mother Nature can move quick and we want you to be prepared and
